A text expander for Windows 11 lets you save replies and insert them across apps. PhraseVault® works on Windows 10 and 11 (x64): press Ctrl+., search for a phrase, and press Enter to paste it into your current app. It uses search rather than typed abbreviations, so there's no list of codes to memorize.
Windows has no built-in text replacement like macOS; you need an app for that workflow.
How do you save and insert a phrase?
Start with a reply you already use:

Thanks for your email. I'll check this and get back to you by the end of the day.
- Open PhraseVault and press Ctrl+N to create a phrase.
- Give it a descriptive name, such as
support reply, enter the text, and save it. - Return to your email, chat, or document and place the cursor where you want the reply.
- Press Ctrl+., search for
support, and press Enter to insert it. Use the arrow keys to select another result if needed.
Fuzzy search finds partial words in phrase names and unprotected contents, in any word order. Your most-used phrases appear at the top when the search is empty. As your collection grows, names such as support delivery and support refund, or a label such as Support, help you find related replies. The list stays flat, with no folders.
PhraseVault runs in the system tray, and Start with Windows is enabled by default. If Ctrl+. conflicts with another app, you can change it in Settings.
Where can you use your phrases?
PhraseVault pastes into apps that accept a normal paste, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Thunderbird, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Teams, Slack, Visual Studio, VS Code, and Windows Terminal. An app or field that blocks pasting won't accept a phrase either.
Phrases can be plain text, Markdown, or HTML. Formatting depends on what the receiving app accepts.
Your phrases stay in a local database, with no account required. Colleagues can open a database in a shared folder too, but arrange for one person to edit at a time — the app doesn't merge simultaneous edits.
How do you install PhraseVault on Windows?
Use the installer on the download page, the Microsoft Store listing, or Windows Package Manager:
