PhraseVault® is an offline text expander that stores your phrases in a database you control, without uploading them or sending telemetry. No cloud account is required. Local storage can simplify a GDPR review, but compliance also depends on how you store, share, and use personal data.
How does PhraseVault handle your data?
- Local storage — your library stays in a database file on your computer unless you choose another location.
- No telemetry — usage counts help put frequently used phrases first, but stay in the database and aren't sent to the developer.
- No account required — there's no registration or login for the app.
- Offline operation — creating, searching, inserting, and checking your license key don't need internet access.
- Source-available code — license holders can request it by emailing office@spqrk.net and signing a non-disclosure agreement.
To insert a phrase, press Ctrl+. on Windows or Cmd+. on Mac, search for it, and press Enter. You don't need to memorize abbreviation triggers. PhraseVault pastes through the clipboard; the receiving app then handles that text under its own privacy rules. Pasting into a cloud service can send the text to that service.
What if I share or protect my library?
You can keep the database on a shared network drive you control. If you choose a Dropbox, OneDrive, or other synced folder, that service may upload it even though PhraseVault itself doesn't. For a local setup, choose a location outside cloud-synced folders.
PIN protection encrypts selected phrase contents, not the whole database. Names remain visible, and a forgotten PIN can't be recovered. See PIN protection.
What about the command line?
An optional command, off by default, lets scripts and AI agents that run shell commands use the library. You turn it on under Settings → Security → Command line & AI agents. The confirmation warns that any program running as you can then use PhraseVault from the command line.
The command talks to the app on this computer: a local named pipe on Windows, or a Unix socket on a Mac. It opens no network port and needs no account. PhraseVault does not send the returned text anywhere. An AI agent you run can still send that text to its own provider. Details are in the command line guide.
How does local storage help with GDPR?
Keeping phrases locally avoids sending the library to the software vendor for cloud storage. You're still responsible for what personal data you save, who can access it, and where you paste it. These choices remain part of your GDPR assessment.

What about the website and payments?
PhraseVault is developed in Austria. Its privacy policy explains website and payment data separately from the phrase library. Buying a license uses Stripe in your browser. Check for Updates also opens a website, passing the app version but no phrases. Windows and installation services may collect data under their own policies.
